What is Cooling Tower?
Cooling towers fall into two main categories:
Natural draft Cooling Tower and Mechanical draft Cooling Tower
Natural draft towers use very large concrete chimneys to introduce air through the media
These types of towers are used only by utility power stations.
Mechanical draft towers
Mechanical draft towers are available in the following air flow arrangements:
1. Counter flows induced draft.
2. Counter flow forced draft.
3. Cross flow induced draft.
The counter-flow and cross flows are two basic designs of cooling towers based on the
fundamentals of heat exchange. It is well known that counter flow heat exchange is more
effective as compared to cross flow or parallel flow heat exchange.
